Mathematical  Development

 

Number- Recite to 10 forwards/backwards. Count/recognise/order up to 5.

 

Number rhymes - “5little monkeys”, “Can you count from 1-10”?

 

Measures- Compare 2 objects for size.

 

Shape and space - Recognise/name 2D shapes. Make simple patterns. Use language of position- behind, in front etc.

 

Sorting - for 1 or 2 properties.                       

 

Number- Recite to 15. Count/recognise/order up to 10. Count in 2’s. Find 1 more/less.

 

Number rhymes - “!,2,3,4,5”, “5 little ducks”, “5 little speckled frogs”,  “2,4,6,8 Johnny caught a flat skate”, “When I was 1”.

Knowledge  and Understanding of the World

 

Learn the names of parts of the body. Look at old toys and compare with new.  Use senses to investigate. Find out about harvest,  celebrations, birthdays, Christmas.

 

 ICT - Graphics programme “Paint”. Send/ receive a www, Santa message. Go on an Autumn hunt.  Windy day activities. “We’re going on a bear hunt” activities. Find out about squirrels and hedgehogs in Autumn.

 

Places we go on holiday. Identify natural feat-ures such as beaches, cliffs, rock pools. Explore water, ice, bubbles. Pond dipping. Visit to the wetlands and beach. ICT - Directions forward, backwards left, right using “Pixie” and beebot programmable toy. Snowy day activities. Rainy day activities. Go on a Winter hunt. Go on a Spring hunt. Find out about birds in winter- How many birds can you see/hear? Build a nest for a bird. How many worms can you find? Investigate children’s questions.

 

 

Identify features – farms. Visit to a farm. Visit to see chickens/visit from chickens.

 

Sort animals into groups – Farm, sea, minibeasts.Design and make a minibeast.

 

ICT – Use “Textease” to write letters, words, sentences for a farmbook.

 

Sunny day activities. Shadows. Go on  minibeast hunts. Go on a Summer hunt. Explore new life by watching chicks hatching out of eggs.
